General information
Participation in the Tennis Esport Cup is free of charge.
Rounds and groups
– There are 5–6 rounds during the season. The starting groups for the new season are based on the final results of the previous season in May.
– Players are divided into groups according to their level, with four players per group. Each group plays a single round-robin. This is followed by a one-week break, during which the groups are updated. On the Saturday of the break week, players have the opportunity to take part in a free tennis clinic.
– No ranking points are awarded. The season culminates in the A, B and C series finals at the end of May.
Match format and playing time
– Players agree on the match time between themselves, book the court and split the court fee equally. Matches must be played by the deadline on the courts at Esport Centre. Matches played elsewhere will result in exclusion from the league.
– Matches last 1 hour. Matches are played as standard tennis matches under the usual rules of tennis; sets are not counted.
– Games are played using the No-Ad scoring system. At 40–40, one deciding point is played, and the winner of that point wins the game. The receiver chooses which side the serve is played to.
– The winner of the match is the player who has won the most games when the hour is up. Matches end when the buzzer sounds. If the ball is in play when the buzzer sounds, the point is not played to completion. The winner receives 2 points and the loser 0 points. The winner records the result on the scoreboard.
– Draws are not permitted. If the games are tied, for example at 5–5, and the score in the current game is 30–15 when the buzzer sounds, the player leading that game wins it, making the final score 6–5. If the games are tied and the score in the current game is, for example, 40–40 when the buzzer sounds, the player who won the last point played wins the game.
– Each player is responsible for making line calls on their own side of the court. If you are unsure about a call, call the ball in. Play your match in the spirit of fair play – no time-wasting!
Arranging match times, recording results and the league table
– Be proactive and aim to play one match a week rather than four matches in the final week. Book your court well in advance and, where possible, use daytime slots. Please note: If a match is cancelled, remember to cancel your court booking with the booking desk as well by calling 0300 472 300 (€0.99/min + local/mobile call charge).
– If, despite several attempts, you are unable to arrange a match with your opponent, you are entitled to a walkover victory. All walkovers are recorded as 1–0. If the players are unable to agree on a match time, the result will be recorded as 1–0 in favour of the player who has been more active in trying to arrange the match. After each round, a result must be recorded for every match. If the result is left blank, it will be recorded as 0–0 in the results service and both players will receive -1 point.
– If a player fails to give sufficient notice that they are unable to play or does not show up at the agreed time, and the court booking can no longer be cancelled by the deadline (at least 24 hours before the start of the booking), the player will be declared to have lost the match 1–0. The player is responsible for paying the full cost of the court booking that could not be cancelled.
– If two players in a group finish level on points, their ranking is determined by the winner of their head-to-head match. If more than two players in a group finish on the same number of points, the results service will first determine their rankings based on the game difference in their head-to-head matches.
